Planting time is almost here

Posted by Picasa This farm might not actually be in Sharon - I was driving on a back road and may have crossed into the town of Northeast, in Dutchess County, New York. They grow corn in this field - it's usually planted in late May, and by mid-July it's as high as an elephant's eye.

So are these "towers" used for corn storage then?

Cool picture. I saw a house on my way home last night that looked like a farmhouse or converted barn. Pretty funny considering it was on a regular ol' residential street.

Beautiful! American countryside as we imagine it, as we used to see it in our geography books at school... It could be a hyperrealist painting too!

Nicola, yes, they're called silos -- when you asked I looked them up on Wikipedia - good article there explaining what they're used for (storage of grains, basically). If you ever see the movie "Witness" you'll never forget what's inside a silo!
