Great Elm again

Evidently I missed the most important sights on Great Elm so I have to go back, after the cold snap breaks. But I liked this line of hay bales.
Today is my daughter's 8th birthday - Happy Birthday Abbey!
One picture a day of this rural, old New England town.

Happy Birthday from France, miss Abbey!
Belated Happy Birthday to your daughter! I hope you gave her a camera of her own.
It looks like there is some earth disturbance on site. This tells me that the hay bales are being used as a soil erosion barrier, a requirement when soil is going to be disturbed.
I work in Land Surveying in Southeast Michigan. The most common type of barrier that I've seen in this area is a silt fence, which is a woven plastic material with wooden stakes. When I first started out (12-14 years ago) I came across a few straw/hay bales, but I just can't remember the last time I saw any.
