A bird in the hand

Three white-throated sparrows flew into our porch when the kids ran out to play in the snow (sleet, really) and left the door open. They were hurling themselves into the windows, trying to escape. We were able to catch them and throw them back outside -though come to think of it if I were them I'd rather stay in the nice dry porch til the storm is over! Holding a bird is an incredible feeling - they weigh next to nothing, their feathers are unbelievably soft, you can feel their heart poundind and yet they stay calm and don't struggle - they must know they're utterly helpless.

I've heard the saying "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", but I think you take it too literarly ;-)))
