Inspired!

inspired, originally uploaded by jahansell.

At the Family Arts Festival, this little girl was entranced by the dancers of Solas an Lae, who were dong Irish step dancing (most wonderfully!) I think she was ready to enroll in lessons!

IN reality(being we did Irish dancing for years) this is a hornpipe...notice the shoes...hard..they used to be made with nails on the bottom in order to tap out a story. on h ard packed earth..Our modern tap dance is taken from this dance...made popular in the 40's. A slip jig is done with shoes that are like ballet shoes that lace up the calf and ankle...only a girls dance...the hornpipe...gender neutral! the most interesting thing about Irish dancing is the arms are held down at the sides and don't move..Try it when you dance...very hard to keep your balance....nice shot.
