Maple syrup season

pan of sap, originally uploaded by jahansell.

It's sugaring time here in northwestern Connecticut. Last year was a bad year for the maple tappers, but this year apparently it's going quite well. Sharon Audubon had their Maple festival today, and while I didn't go myself, I sent my deputy photographers (aka my daughters) and they did a fantastic job. A photo essay of their day is here.

Your daughters took great pictures. I remember learning about how they get and make maple syrup from grade school, that seems like so long ago.

Ha. At first, I honestly came because I thought for sure this would be a hobo's camp and that would be his kettle of soup or baked beans warming over the fire. Maple syrup was a surprise fine.
