Change in the landscape

sbt in Millerton, originally uploaded by jahansell.

Salisbury Bank & Trust is coming to Millerton, and how! The branch they're building at the corner of Maple and Main is looming high (and moving fast after months of what seemed like nothing happening at all.)

It took the place of a tiny strip plaza that contained a restaurant (the cheap but tasty Broadway Pizza, for the first few years I worked in town, and then, briefly, something else that failed) and an auto parts shop. I wonder: will having a third bank here in town change the dynamic, the business community, the micro-economy in any noticeable way?

It will certainly give Millertonians a taste of first-rate community banking.
M&T is simply awful. They make you call corporate in Buffalo for everything. I don't know much about the other bank (Hudson River Savings?), but SBT has a fine rep. I know the senior execs (Rick Cantele and before him, John Perotti). Very responsive and community-minded.
A good pick-up for Millerton.

P.S. My only question is what is SBT going to do with all that space? They couldn't possibly require that much for a branch office.

Terry, I agree with you about M&T - no sense of local involvement. First Niagara (formerly Hudson River Bank & Trust) is better, but the professionalism and commitment of the folks at SB&T is a world apart. Looking forward to having them here!

Wow! It's as tall as the Chrysler Building! Looks like it'll give the Baptist Church a run for tallest skyscraper in Miller-tron, the town of the future. They must expect BIG things from Millerton!
