There are swaths of mud, dead leaves and brown grass in my yard, and spots of open water on the ponds and lakes. Something's happening!

Speaking of the thaw, this will be one hell of a mud season. And the roads will take weeks to recover from the thawing/freezing cycle and the brutality of the frequent plows. It will be a welcome but ugly spring.
